Adaptation is at the center of this beautifully interwoven choral program with organ and piano. Repurposing harmonies and melodies by composers of the past has often been an inspiring point of departure for creative minds. This concert presents works that draw on each other by Bach, Beethoven, Gounod and Lennon/McCartney. It also features a new commission from Trevor Weston. Fauré’s beloved Requiem concludes a program that promises a number of rewarding surprises for the listener.

  • J.S. Bach, Prelude No 1 in C major, BWV 846
  • Charles Gounod, Introït et Kyrie, and Pie Jesu, from Requiem in C major
  • Beethoven, Adagio sostenuto from Piano Sonata no. 14 in C sharp minor “Quasi una fantasia,” Op. 27, No. 2 (the “Moonlight” sonata)
  • Charles Gounod, Ave Maria (Meditation after the first piano prelude by J. S. Bach)
  • Fauré, Pavane
  • John Lennon/Paul McCartney (arr. Shawn Bartels), Because
  • Beethoven/Gottlob Benedict Bierey, Kyrie (after the Adagio from the “Moonlight” sonata)
  • Trevor Weston, Love Takes, commission by Musica Viva NY
