2019-2020 SEASON OVERVIEW

Welcome to Musica Viva NY’s 2019-20 season!

Musica Viva NY’s 2019-2020 season puts a spotlight on our resident ensembles: the Musica Viva NY choir, and our string quartet-in-residence, Aeolus Quartet. Three of the concerts feature the choir in works for a cappella choir, showcasing their fulsome sound and their versatility. From Hildegard von Bingen, a medieval-era nun who wrote visionary plainchant from her cloistered cell, to Rachmaninoff’s All Night Vigil, a Russian masterwork for a cappella choir, the Musica Viva NY choir will explore the breadth and marvelous variety of choral music through the ages. Aeolus Quartet returns to Bohemian National Hall in a program of Czech masterworks, including Antonin Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in collaboration with MVNY’s Artistic Director, Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, as part of our partnership with the Dvořák American Heritage Association. They are also featured as collaborators this season, performing alongside the choir, which offers a unique opportunity to hear music for small vocal ensemble and small instrumental ensemble side by side. This season is one of intimacy and subtle complexity.

To enhance your experience of the music, join us at our pre-concert talks one hour before each concert. Each talk features a special guest who brings their expertise and unique perspective to the evening’s program, uncovering new ways to listen to the music we have planned. Every concert promises to be an extraordinary experience; get your subscription tickets and mark your calendars today!
